On 14th March, we held drop-in sessions for residents and members of the local community within the Ovenden Green estate. Our team were based on the Green, at St. George’s House, and out and about on site.
The event focused on introducing Place Capital Group and Placeshaping to the community, seeking people's views on what they liked and disliked about their neighbourhood. A copy of the consultation boards shared at the event can be found below.
The event was accompanied by the launch of the Common Place site, on which you can find the online Resident Survey (Have Your Say Today) where you can answer more specific questions and provide feedback to help us identify the key opportunities and challenges on the estate.
Feedback received so far has covered:
· Access to amenities due to proximity to Halifax and transport links.
· Need for more housing, including large family properties and bungalows.
· Need for improved access to existing properties (gates and ginnels).
· Lack of provision for children and teenagers.
· Anti-social behaviour.
· Low quality open spaces (previous house clearance) attract motorbike and quad bikes.
Over the next few weeks, we will continue to review feedback and reflect on this as we develop our proposals. Whilst some issues raised are beyond our control, we are working towards a design that best balances everyone in the community. We are also speaking with Calderdale council to ensure that they are aware of the wider issues raised.
Please revisit this site as often as you like to add your thoughts. We will be adding further information as this develops. Don’t forget to submit your email on our homepage to stay updated.
